Big deal. So Blair goes and we get saddled with Brown. How is that better? It'll still be Labour in government. www.merrens.com

True, the problem is that Brown represents Kirkcaldy - You could put a red rosette on a pig and call it the Labour candidate and they'd vote for it. I used to say the same about Dunfermline, but I was proved wrong (probably just temporarily) last week. It might even be worse. Brown is just an old-style Socialist dressed in New Labour clothes. Once he's in charge, I expect he'll tax people like us to oblivion - nothing he likes more than redistributing our hard-earned cash to the black hole in his finances.

And how does that make him different than any other politician? They all want to redistribute our cash. The only difference between any of them is which black hole they feed it into.

I sat and worked out that more than half of my income is paid in tax. Gordon Brown is king of the stealth tax. If you look on my pay slip it says just 22% tax. But once you add in National Insurance, VAT, Fuel Duty, Council Tax, Vehicle Excise Duty, and a whole raft of smaller taxes that seem insignificant on their own but mount up over the year. Optimistically I recon that 60% of what I'm paid goes to Gordon Brown's black hole. Just 5 years ago my council tax bill was for £114 per month. That was based on 2 people living in the same house. Now, I live alone and I am paying £134 per month! :wtf: However, on the plus side, I've switched to an offset mortage so the tax I was paying on the interest I received at the bank is now no longer being taxed - because I no longer receive the interest, instead the contents of my account are offset against the mortgage so I pay less interest to the bank on the morgage. Over the term of the mortage I should be £15,000 better off than if I'd received the interest.
