Ok guys and girls here is a fun question that maybe some of yall math folks will be able to solve. Note that I am not in High School and this is NOT for homework :) My wife is doing the budget and we can't figure this out... x + (10% of x) = y We know how much (y) is, but is there a way to get the value of (x) without knowing what (10% of x) is? Thanks for the help, -Richard

        Let's do this first... (10% of x) = 0.1 * x = 0.1x So... x + 0.1x = y x(1 + 0.1) = y x(1.1) = y x = y/1.1 And how is this soapbox material? :)

Thanks for the help. I posted here because I didn't want anyone to assume this was a programming question and go on and on and on about how people aren't suppose to post programming questions in the lounge... :) Long explination for a short answer. -Richard
