dropdownlist requiredvalidation

The problem is, when validated, requirefieldvalidation for this dropdownlist doesnt throw a message in validation summary... asp:ListItem>-Month- January February March April May June July August September October November December In the above code if i change the sentence as January ....... ..... December then the validation field works fine...Is there any solution for this

You can set the Value of the first item to blank:

<asp:ListItem Value="">-Month-</asp:ListItem>
