OK, I wrote 'Iraq', make that 'what will be Kurdistan some day soon' Anyway, loks like things are really hotting up in another part of the middle east. Turkish soldiers along with some village guards crossed over Iraq’s northern border sometime before 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday and fired several rockets, apparently targeting the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK)[^] Interestingly, this article describes the PKK as a terrorist organisation, else where they are described as an independence party. Civil War or War of Independence?

Not very surprising, except perhaps it took so long... one day or another, there will be a full scale war between Turkey and Iraq. The link to counterterrorismblog[^] is also very interesting: "does the right of self defence just belong to Israel in the Middle East? For example, doesn’t Turkey have such a right? [...] As a result, Prof. Laciner argues that Turkey has the right to engage in a defensive intervention into Iraq to smash the PKK and its network." Yeepee.

Ah, but it it self defence, or the Kuds in the East of Turkey fighting for independence? Has Turkey got the right to force a people to stay part of Turkey if the will of that people is to split off? Anyway, Kurdistan here we come, and TUrkey has to put up with that fact.

Same questions for Northern Ireland Basque Land, Catalonya... In any case, terrorism and violence is not a way to gain independence vs a democracy.

Turkey and Iraq, and Iran, and Syria... and maybe Armenia too... there may be a long time before there is a Kurdistan.
