Virtual Application pool crash

Hi all, I'm working on a website that's hosted to an online server. Yesterday the site crashed :( It returned an error message saying that the "Virtual application pool within the IIS crashed" So what's the cause of this error? Is it a server error or something wrong in the application?? Thanks a lot in advance :) Happy
