WAP - viable or dead?
-
I've been asked to look into the potential for developing some point-of-sale or point-of-contact software that would be available via relatively baseline mobile phones. Java and CE apps are, at this point, not being considered. SMS query/response is right out as well, because we'll be dealing with confidential information. The only other avenue that I'm aware of is WAP, and it seems to have security problems of its own. In addition, I've not seen any good WAP books in my searches that were published after 2002. Does anybody have any WAP experience where security was a big concern of your system? Does anyone think WAP is still a viable development platform? Any and all responses would be very appreciated - I can't seem to get a good read on whether or not I should start raising red flags yet.
