I run a telephone and email helpline. As such I get emailed viruses ast least weekly. Not much of a problem as I use Dr Solomons and daily update my virus definitions. I'm using Windows2000, and now when I boot up I get the message "Can't find openme.exe". I may have deleted this file as it couldn't be cleaned. I can't find any references to it in MSDN, and searching another Windows2000 PC I failed to find it. I've searched the registry for references to it, and found nothing. Has anyone got any ideas what it is please? Or where the load "openme.exe" call could be called. Thanks Jeremy Davis http://www.astad.org

A long shot, but have you looked in win.ini and system.ini? I don't remember if those are even parsed anymore but its worth a try :) James Sonork: Hasaki "I left there in the morning with their God tucked underneath my arm their half-assed smiles and the book of rules. Lets try this, go to Start, Programs, Accessories, System Tools, System Information. Go into the Software Environment then Startup Programs. Is it listed there? You can't actually do anything, but it will at least tell you where it is looking :) Also look for anything that shouldn't be there maybe something is trying to load it on startup. I found two things that were just hangups from other installations so I used the registery editor to remove them. I'm still getting the message though!  Jeremy Davis http://www.astad.org

Run regedit.exe and, from the top of the tree, search for openme.exe. It's going to take some time (structured storage performs like a turtle on barbituates), but the registery is always the first place I look for such things. The search is tediously slow, but it's more thorough than trying to remember all the different clever little places the reference can be tucked away. The call can be orginated from an exe or dll where openme.exe is not visible as ascii. You could try to search your harddisk for files that are modified or created on the date that your problem started. If this list is limited you can try to figure out why these files are changed and maybe delete the ones that you don't know why they are there. It's a long shot, but I could solve a simular problem like that.
