explorer crashing
-
I'll give this vista it's due, it certainly handles a crash well. I have a folder which contains several avi files, divX codec I think, each time I open the folder explorer crashes. The problem more than likely relates to the ffdshow codec I have installed and explorer trying to create thumbnails for each of the files. Does anybody know of a way to open the folder as a list view rather than thumbnail view?

( if it works like XP or 2000 ) maybe : Go to another folder, set it to list view, and go to Tools->Folder Options and in the "View" tab, click on the "Apply To All Folder"

As crazy as it sounds, changing the view does not prevent thumbnails from being generated. I tried quickly setting it to a 'details' view before it crashed. I was confronted with 16x16 thumbnails of the movie files :omg: There must be a setting there somewhere, possibly system wide, to prevent thumbnails being created, but I have yet to find it.

You mean the FFdshow or the thumbnails? I'll tell you one thing that shocked me last night, the blue screen of death :~ . I thought that went out with Win98.

XP crashes if you have a corrupt avi file in a dir... Its annoying, you open a dir with a load of avi files, and you can't delete them or move them until it finishes looking at each one to workout out what the resolution is etc...
