Microsoft

I'm sorry to all of you that like Microsoft, but I really hate them, and they need to get their act together;P. They keep track of way too much that I don't think they should. Anybody who wanted to could get information from the files that internet explorer saves that they shouldn't have. I WOULD NOT TRY THIS AND I AM ONLY POINTING IT OUT. Ok, now i have an idea for microsoft (they don't have a place for suggestions, right?) that would let me buy their next operating system when i buy my next computer (or heck, even update Vista). First I'll explain my problem. I have many programs on my computer that have to do with USB devices, and they all have to load at start up and have to continue to run during the computer, otherwise my programs won't work. This makes my computer run slow. So I think Microsoft should create an index of every program that should run when a USB device is plugged in, and then run all of those programs. This would also get rid of many of the icons I have in the lower right hand corner of my screen (those annoy me greatly). Now that i think about it, I think i would like to take a try at making my own operating system, just for the experience. So if anybody has any sites that have helped them in making their own operating system, I would like to know. It's better to get it from a person than google, even though google is faster. I trust the community more than i trust google, no surprise.:) Thanks to anybody who actually went through the trouble of reading my entire post, you are very diligent. I respect everybody's opinion and have nothing against yours. Any help with the making and OS is greatly Appreciated.:rose:

Go here[^] and get a copy of Oberon (for bare hardware or Windows or whatever). Then get the book, "Project Oberon - The Design of an Operating System and Compiler" by N. Wirth and J. Gutknecht (or just use the PDF version that is free on the above site).

Another possibility is: right-click on your taskbar -> Properties -> Customize, and here you can specify whether you want the icons to appear or not.

Good idea, this will make you realize that the task is not easy, I think.

I remember helping my wife go through this when she was doing her degree back in the 90s. I seem to remember that he developed the OS because he didn't think that any of the current ones would do Oberon (the language that is) justice.

Yea. I know the task won't be easy. It'll be hard. I find programming hard so I'm wondering how hard it'll be. Just a simple operating system so that i can say i tried it. And thanks for the tip on getting rid of the icons.:)
It will be very hard. This requires a deep understanding of hardware and a thorough understanding of issues such as memory management, efficient algorithms and so on.
