The sensor failed and caused the computer to make some really bad decisions on shift points and gears and toasted the transmission. The point wasn't so much that it failed or the damage done due to the failure, that can happen to any manaufacturer. The problem was that the high end stuff is sometimes so high end that it's difficult to get serviced when required.
