I have a webcam with built in lights one of those fancy light sensors. IE if it's too dark the lights will come on. But it's really annoying. If I power off my machine and turn the room's light off, the webcams light fires up. The only way I can prevent this from happening is to physically pull the USB cord from the back of the machine. I'm just wondering if there is any way I can configure it not to do this? I don't want the webcam to recieve any power while the machine is off.

You have to cut off the power supply to your machine. Some power supply adaptors are equipped with Power On/Off buttons.

How to do that is mob specific so you'll need to look at your docs. The feature will be called something like wake on USB, or wake on keyboard/mouse. What it does is provide power to the ports from the standby rail when the main power is off. Normally this is used to let the mouse/keyboard turn the PC on but will power anything that's connected. Depending on your board it's either a bios or jumper setting and is generally set for each pair of ports independently.

-- Rules of thumb should not be taken for the whole hand.
