Sounds like a fun project. I want to create one of my own but I'm keeping its information secret. Mine will be impossibly difficult to create to the third power:laugh: but my concept for it is really neat and I will certainly attempt it when I get the skills and the time. I will take a look at dbmmorpg.

It's fun thinking of ideas for great games isn't it ? I've had the idea for dbmmorpg for a long time, and only since XNA have i ever thought of making it reality. As you can see, i'm not keeping my ideas in the closet, in the hope that i'll get enough people to contribute, cause when a lot of people gather, great things happen. :D

      Yeah.

I have had the idea for my game "Evolution" for a long time too. I took a look at XNA and I didn't like it. I don't like how it uses a special version of the CLR.

I'm glad it is going to be written in C#, that makes it extra fun to write. Have you thought of any architectural details?

Certain aspects i must admit aren't that great. Like the awesome thing (can't remember the name) that you add 3D models automatically, well you have to build the project every time you change something on the model. So even though it's fast and easy to put a model, a small change doesn't reflect real time.

It's a Xbox 360 compatible version. That's something worth a different .NET package, isn't it?

Plenty, but none of them are posted on the site. I'll keep those until i can get a good group of programmers on my side. But there's a hell of a lot of ideas on the game itself. (the real fun part)

I can contribute as a programmer. However my network and graphics skills are minimal. I would like to help work on the game logic.

Personally I feel I can contribute with networking sectors, and minimally on graphics. I would love to get cracking on game logic but I don't have any experience I am mostly build business database solutions.

Well its a perfect learning opportunity. I have never worked on a large open source project before, it should be fun. How do I sign up, do I just register my self on your website?

this may not be the very best place to post this, so I'll keep it short :P At dbmmorpg.org[^] we are trying to develop a game and we need willing people to help. It's an MMORPG based on the manga/anime Dragonball[^] and it's sequels. It's meant to be an open-source project, and anyone who is exited about the idea can contribute any way they can. We are always in need of experienced programmers with certain "free" time available to them. And please don't rant about how impossibly hard it is to create a 3D MMORPG.

Hi Ericos, This sounds like a very interesting idea. Have you been involved in game development before? I ask because I am currently working for funded MMO project that I am not allowed to talk about :) But, I just want to offer the advice that game development and on top of that a MMO is very complex work. So, if you are going to run your project with a volunteer staff you will need to keep it as organized and as focused as possible. Otherwise you will find that you techies will get bored and disengaged. But, if you can keep things on task and keep the folks doing the hard work happy and feeling appreciated you should be fine. I hope this helps as I am not trying to be negative but rather pointing out the reality of a project like this. Best of luck

Thank you very much! I've already thought of what you said, and I do believe it's going to be as hard to keep up the motivation as actually programming the game. But it's worth a shot, isn't it? Certain people so far are more exited than I am, and it's based on that sheer excitement I think this project can do well. But hey, in the very worse case scenario, it'll drop down a dimension (i.e. I'll finish development as a 2D game). Pointers like these help, and if you can show our project around (since you are in the business and all) perhaps certain people might get interested, no ?
