    hi guys, just curious.you know in country like austria we speak mostly german but do americans with german ancestory speak german at home? same case with irish and french.you know because the are patriotic(chauvinist may be...) and definitely hate english.just curious. and,i will be living in springfield illinois soon.

      In the R of Ireland we speak english mainly [well after 700 years of english rule what woudl you expect!!!]. There are areas called Gaelteachs where Gáilge [Irish] is spoken as the primary languge but most of the population could speak a bit of Irish. Personally I'd be able to have a decent conversation in Irish and I'm not the best compared to some of my friends. :rose:

          My grandfather on my mother's side was the last person in my family to speek german at home. These things tend to die out after a few generations :) --------_**
