Anyone could smuggle a weapon aboard a plane under duress. So it makes sense to search everybody.
Especially those eighty year old ladies. They know they're going to die soon anyway, so why not take some people with them when they go. Besides, if they kill some infidel dogs, aren't there 13 buff lifeguards waiting in the afterlife to pleasure them? To ensure we Americans never offend anyone, particularly fanatics intent on killing us, airport screeners are not allowed to profile people. They will, however, continue to perform random searches of 80-year-old women, little kids, airline pilots with proper identification, Secret Service agents who are members of the President's security detail, and 85-year old Congressmen with metal hips. Let's pause a moment and take the following test... In 1972, 11 Israeli athletes were killed at the Munich Olympics by: a) Your Grandmother; b) The night cleaning crew at Rockefeller Center; (c) A Mom & her 6 year old son visiting from Iowa; or (d) Muslim male extremists mostly between the ages of 17 and 40. In 1979, the U.S. embassy in Iran was taken over by: (a) Norwegians from the Lichen Herbarium of the University of Oslo; (b) The Dallas Cowboy cheerleaders; (c) A tour bus full of 80-year-old women; or (d) Muslim male extremists mostly between the ages of 17 and 40. In 1983, the U.S. Marine barracks in Beirut was blown up by: (a) A pizza delivery boy; (b) A woman who was 8 months pregnant; (c) Geraldo Rivera making up for a slow news day; or (d) Muslim male extremists mostly between the ages of 17 and 40. In 1988, Pan Am Flight 103 was bombed by: (a) A college girl; (b) A businessman on his way to Detroit; (c) Butch and Sundance, who had a few sticks of dynamite left over from their train mission; or, (d) Muslim male extremists mostly between the ages of 17 and 40. In 1993, the World Trade Center was bombed by: (a) The cast of "Cats"; (b) Martha Stewart; (c) Cheese-crazed tourists from Wisconsin; or (d) Muslim male extremists mostly between the ages of 17 and 40. In 1998, the U.S. embassies in Kenya and Tanzania a were bombed by: (a) Mr. Rogers; (b) Hillary, to distract attention from Wild Bill's women problems; (c) A family on their way to Disneyworld; or (d) Muslim male extremists mostly between the ages of 17 and 40. On 9/11/01, four airliners were hijacked and destroyed by: (a) Bugs Bunny, Wil E. Coyote, Daffy Duck, and Elmer Fudd. Or the fact that young Palestinian women are now carrying out suicide bombings in Isreal... I think a pertinant point here is that 9 of the Sep 11 hijackers were found to be carrying knives in random checks yet were still allowed to carry them onboard. cheers, Chris Maunder

Thanks for the sarcasm. What if terrorists threaten to kill the great grand child of an eight year old lady if she doesn't smuggle a weapon and give it to a terriost inside the plane? What if her grand child is already kidnapped? What if a child is enticed to carry a box cutter? Anything could happen. Who could forsee hijackers going suicidal? Maybe it isn't a bad idea to anticipate what might happen and prepare for it!

Roger, I think similar, When youger have a knife or gun pointed at me didn't really scare me Now I have the responsibilities of family I don't consider it wise. And I most certainly unarmed am not scared of most people with a knife due to my size, reach and ability. C'mon Boxcutter wounds are nice and straight and heal fast !! But on a flight like that, I would consider what the safest alternative was for all the other passengers as well. And I doubt the passengers imagined what was planned as suicide missions. Thanks for the sarcasm. What if terrorists threaten to kill the great grand child of an eight year old lady if she doesn't smuggle a weapon and give it to a terriost inside the plane? What if her grand child is already kidnapped? What if a child is enticed to carry a box cutter? Anything could happen. Who could forsee hijackers going suicidal? Maybe it isn't a bad idea to anticipate what might happen and prepare for it!
