Delving into RedHat 7.3 and Sun Solaris 8
-
Hi Guys, I'm just here to release my frustration with being a Windows guy trying to learn flavors of UNIX. First, I remembered that Red Hat had a list of mirror sites that you could download Linux (this was about 2 years ago). Well, when I went back there today, I had somewhat a hard time to find the mirror list. It wasn't after I did a search on their site that I noticed that it was in the bottom of the download page under related links. I could have sworn that two years ago, it was a prominent link. Second, Solaris is no fun to install without a big hard drive. I have an extra 4.3GB drive that I'm using and Solaris would take up everything and there would be no space left for StarOffice, Forte/Java, and Forte C++. :( And the fonts. I somewhat hate the font scaling in Linux when it becomes small. Windows doesn't look anything close to that when shrinking fonts. OK, enough rant. I'd personally recommend SuSE over RedHat, Mandrake and Solaris. I've tried all 4 and SuSE just comes out on top in my opinion. You can download it from any of these mirrors. [opens in a new window :-)] I have SuSE 7.1 and 7.3 on CD [both are 7 CD's] and 7.1 on DVD... so if you want a copy of those just drop me an email and we'll sort something out.

Thanks for the suggestion, though the reason why I went after Sun Solaris and Red Hat was because of them being more popular. Unfortunately, the job market hasn't been nice to me since I finished my BS from UCLA. So, I'm trying to expand my programming skills outside of Windows and try to become a general programmer. I figure putting the #1 UNIX and the #1 Linux on my resume might help. Anyway, thanks for the offer. Frank Frank@Frank-L.com http://www.Frank-L.com Los Angeles, CA, USA

They don't appear to have ISO images. :( :( WTF! :wtf: Mike Mullikin "Thank you America, every night I see increasingly stupid things happening here in Australia. Then you come along and top it." - Michael Martin - The Lounge :bob:
