Surely you've experienced something before where afterwards you realize you didn't know what you were talking about before.

Still, not to be able to talk about it afterwards is just down to a lack of articulation skills.

Ha. So American. I once saw 3 American young men doing a program about running with the bulls in Pamplona. Before the event they were full of what tactics to take, how to run, how to curl up if a bull attacks you. After then event they were full of 'You have to have done it to talk about it'. Tossers. They immediately wrote their former sleves off, those who did talk about it before doing it, as useless. Of course were this sttitude to prevail we would be unable to discuss any history.

            Q. How many Vietnam vets does it take to change a light bulb? A. (In angry, confrontational voice) “You don’t know. You weren’t there!” Hopefully not a repost.

I find this joke funny. You probably got voted down by the same idiots who don't undestand why islamists are angry when we make fun of their religion.

Ha. So European. I spent 2 weeks in Spain (Vitoria) on business many years ago. It was during the festival of San Fermin - so they were running with the bulls in Pamplona every morning. On the first or second day a young American student was seriously injured. One of the older Spanish men at the plant I was working went on and on about "these stupid Americans, they don't understand the traditions. They don't take it serious. Fools!" Well, a couple days pass and 3 young Spaniards were critically gored. Do I say a word? Do I point out his glaring hypocrisy? No. I smile inwardly in the knowledge that current Europeans are just as big of fools as those of us whose ancestors took a boat ride a few hundred years ago.

Was a condemnation or statement of fact that you can't talk intelligently about something you haven't yet experienced?

Not yet, no... who knows, you yet may have the last laugh. But remember this: no matter how long he who laughs last laughs, he who laughs first has a head start! :-D
