Disaster

Hey, at least your cat didn't die. Just think how bad that would have been. A broken PC and a dead cat. Can you imagine? :(( And at least you got some rest in #5... :) --------_**

All my dreams are shattered by sequence of disasters that stuck me in the last two days. 1. My XP machine at my work crashed badly. 2. I got an email virus. I don't know how? I never open any emails from any unknown people. :( 3. I don't see any reply emails for my posts to CP :( :( 4. My plan to be the weekly top poster failed. Work machine was not working for two days. :(( 5. To escape from all these tensions, I went to watch "Bad Company". Two of my favorite actors were in the movie Chris Rock and Anthony Hopkins. I felt asleep in the movie :(( Going to sleep now:(
Rama Krishna wrote: 3. I don't see any reply emails for my posts to CP This is not surprising at all. I got bounced mails for every email notification the CP scripts tried to mail you. This was since yesterday evening [about 16 hours ago] I presume others have had the same experience when you replied to their posts :-) Nish

I have never understood why 'we' get the bounced emails ? wouldn't it be better if they were returned to CP ? Regardz Colin J Davies

Rama Krishna wrote: Atleast I I get bounced mails I would be happy. I am not getting anything Damnit! You didn't understand :-) When *you* reply to my post, the CP scripts attempts to send you a mail notification using *my* email address as the from-address. But *because* *you* email server is *down*, it rejects the mail and the CP SMTP server bounces the mail back to the sender, this this case *me* get it now? p.s. The problem is NOT with your mail server, but for some reasons CP's DNS server cannot resolve your server's MX record

I understand the mechanism but i missed the part when ypu said that you were getting bounced mails for the replies send to me. What does the mail header look like. What is the reason given?

What would happen if I reply to myself? Where would it bounce back??

Colin Davies wrote: I have never understood why 'we' get the bounced emails ? wouldn't it be better if they were returned to CP ? What good would that do? At least if we get them we can post a message to let the recipient know his mail's broke. I doubt that Chris has time to read the bounced email messages, or do anything to follow up on them. Rama Krishna wrote: I am totally confused. Don't be confused... it happens all the time. The DNS system is dynamic, and if your ISPs mail server goes down for a time, the records may get purged until it's been back up for a while. If this message bounces, I'll post the error I get so we can all tkae a wild guess at the cause:-D "What is it?" and he said, "I don't know. Let's kill it." - Ed Gadziemski
