Nebraska State Senator sues God.[^] Well this definitely opens up some problems for a few folks. What if this guy wins, that would do away with the idea of atheism. If you can sue someone and win then that person or deity must exist, right!?

Why? There's no jurisdiction.

I dont know, if we can elect a dead man, perhaps he doesn't have to exist to sue him...

Nope, I think you need to get another example. This doesn't work: 1) After his death there was not enough time to remove his name. 2) If elected it would be his wife not him 3) I think his wife killed him so she could serve 4) Trying to pull a sympathy card of a dead man to win is just wrong, if not a little nasty. 5) You shouldn't use your parents as an example that way:laugh:

Nah, I think the case will be thrown out due to lack of evidence. ;P
Man is a marvelous curiosity ... he thinks he is the Creator's pet ... he even believes the Creator loves him; has a passion for him; sits up nights to admire him; yes and watch over him and keep him out of trouble. He prays to him and thinks He listens. Isn't it a quaint idea. - Mark Twain

I am willing to bet you are atheistic in regards to all other religions besides your favorite one, and I bet you are even skeptical of their magic stories. The only difference between you and Atheists (besides intelligence and typing skills) is that they are that way towards all religions.

I contend that we are both atheists. I just believe in one fewer gods than you do. When you understand why you dismiss all the other possible gods, you will understand why I dismiss yours. --Stephen Roberts

Thanks for the personal remarks, show me you maturity so I don't have to wonder. As far as typing, didn't realize you were grading.

religion[^]: 4 : a cause, principle, or system of beliefs held to with ardor and faith 2 : a personal set or institutionalized system of religious attitudes, beliefs, and practices Does that include atheism. atheism[^]: b : the doctrine that there is no deity A difference of beliefs.

The court will punt, and claim it has no jurisdiction. Neither athiests nor the religious will "win" anything here, but we will get to prove that, once more, Lawyers will do anything for a buck, and politicians are idiots.

Defintion a) is more accurate: 2 a : a disbelief in the existence of deity 2b) is a subset of 2a). 2a) includes those who make no contention about the existence of a god, but simply have no belief in one (although, then I suppose the word should more appropriately be "lack of belief" rather than "disbelief.")

You're confusing agnosticism with atheism. Agnosticism is the lack of a belief in general. Atheism is the belief that there is no God.

So you believe that Mohammad magically ascended into heaven? That Thor had a hammer that could cause thunder? If I remember correctly, Yahweh is not too fond of polytheists, and he has a special place for them.
You are trying in corporate all of the stories and all religions into one question. And that is not what I said. You are also trying to get me to say I am something I am not. I am not a polytheist. Please try again later.

No, actually one has to do with knowledge; the other with belief. So the two can be combined: Gnostic Theists know God exists so they believe in him. Agnostic Theists don't know if God exists but believe in him anyway. Gnostic Atheists know God doesn't exist so they don't believe in him. Agnostic Atheists don't God if God exists but they don't believe in him.
