Whats the deal with search?

I assumed the quick search on the start menu would work similar to run in that it will have autocomplete eg: I type in www.goo it comes up with www.google.co.uk which is great but every time I type in www.gm - it offers nothing so I have to type in www.gmail.com. Obviously it finds programs quickly etc but on what criteria does it choose what to remember and what to forget when it comes to web addresses? Thanks Dan
