Free Birth Control for 11-Year Olds

Surprisingly we still seem to have the highest teenage pregnancy rate in Europe, astronomically high STD rates >25% in some sectors of the population and a high and rising abortion rate as well.
Question: Which segments of society? As I understand it, and my understanding is amitedly limited, there's a large portion of the population there that is: Church of England, pure secular, and Muslim. So, is it the religous segment(s) or the secular segments with the high STD rates, etc. Or is this buried too deep in the statistics to be known?
Mike The NYT - my leftist brochure. Calling an illegal alien an “undocumented immigrant” is like calling a drug dealer an “unlicensed pharmacist”. God doesn't believe in atheists, therefore they don't exist.
I think the 25% figure was associated with teenage girls, by which they mean 16-20 year olds because of course figures derived from the illegal activity of underage sex are not collectible  Don't quote me on this because I'm not 100% certain that was the category and this was after all a BBC report. I am sure the 25% figure was what was quoted though. Despite the 70+% of UK citizens who accredit themselves as Christian on Census and surveys only a single digit percentage actaully attend church more than twice a year and somewhat less than 2% are probably actually Christians. Muslims now make up a somewhat larger single digit percentage of the population although figures for 'practising Muslims' are again less. I have no idea how this relates to the STD figures, I very much doubt that any correlation has been analysed but it is highly probable that the vast majority of whatever figures are collected will be from the 'nominally Christian' majority population.

Sorry, I missed that. So, maybe they should rather give them fertility drugs, encouraging them to have less sex.

im all for privacy, but an 11 year old's right to privacy, espceially medical, is just absurd. also, i thought that privacy from medical treatment didnt start until age 16 and 18 in most states. wouldnt the parental consent form also make the information privy to the parents? i know if my 11 year old daughter needed medical services from a public school, i would make the stipulation that i be notified of any treatments, or else i could handle the matter by taken her a a real doctor and not a school nurse. i tried to see a mental health professional when i was in high school, and they refused to treat me with out parental consent for any treatments they prescribed.

UK state schools can't give a child paracetemol or a sticking plaster in case they get sued for an unexpected allergic reaction, even with written parental consent but they can arrange an abortion on behalf of a 14 year old without telling or seeking the consent of her parents or even asking who the father is. That is the level this insanity has reached.

Just playing Devil's advocate, but what if the parents were abusing the girl? Notification to the parents could make the situation much worse. I think for kids who have a good relationship with their parents they are going to share the information regardless. It's those with questionable parents that the privacy clause may help.

come on girl, you're in america, you should know that as soon as a child has a bruise or there is any hint of abuse child protective services are called, hell if a parent disciplines their child in public they have the same thing happen to them...

children who have great relationships with parents, sometimes have the most to hide. im not saying most of them, but ive know my fair share "daddy's girls" who had their parents wrapped so tightly around their fingers that the parents could catch them having sex and she could talk her way out of it...

if questionable parents have 11 year old girls that need birth control, something more needs to be done, other than giving free bitch control to 6th graders...

im a supporter of legal abortion but jesus man! i hate it, but i have to agree with Red. having these options only makes underage(not talking about unwed, im fine with that) children rush into sex with out the emotional maturity they should have. just because at 11 you may be physically mature does not mean that you are emotionally mature...

Is this the BBC Report you were talking about [^] I don't see any reference to 25% but that link is 2 years old. Maybe you seen something more recent. Your last paragraph, frankly, is, I feel, irrelevant. Poor parenting and poor choice of role models, plus peer pressure from their friends, I fear is the real reason for these teenage promiscuities.

That is not every part of the United States. Yes, there are the hyper-vigilantes, but what if the parent is leaving bruises not seen to the general public? I hate to break this to you, but child abuse does happen. In 1995 in the US almost 2/3 of suspected child abuse was reported by professionals - not parents. Look at the case of the girl in Nevada that had the tape shown on cable news TV. Her own mother did not know about the abuse. Abusers know how to brainwash kids to deny and know how to cover their tracks.

Man is a marvelous curiosity ... he thinks he is the Creator's pet ... he even believes the Creator loves him; has a passion for him; sits up nights to admire him; yes and watch over him and keep him out of trouble. He prays to him and thinks He listens. Isn't it a quaint idea. - Mark Twain

Just because consenting adults do not choose to acquire that piece of paper (the marriage certificate) does not mean that the adults who form that relationship are not as capable of enjoying a solid family experience as those who do marry. Out-of-wedlock births is a red herring in today's world.

They have done studies and found out that schools that preach abstinence only have a higher rate of oral sex among students because they don't consider actual sex.

However, the amount of actual teenage sex has greatly increased or, at a minimum, the recognition of the institution of marriage as a necessity for a healthy family has greatly decreased over the years. Out-of-wedlock birth rates are twice what they were 25 years ago. No health class has the power to undue a vast and unfortunate cultural trend.

Obviously the kids are sexually mature, they wouldnt be having kids else, so, well, just give them the damn condoms and info on how to use them. Better than having it underground.

Sexually mature does not denote the necessity of sexual activity. It's rather appalling for an authority figure to send a message to an 11-year old that it's OK to have sex by providing birth control. Even if you get past the perverted notion of 11-year olds having sex, one can rest assured that they won't correctly use the provided birth control...Because they're 11.

Marriage is much more than a "piece of paper". It's a lifelong commitment (that is now widely disregarded) that, if practiced according to the terms of that "piece of paper" yields a much more stable home environment for both the children and parents. What's sad is that single parents who argue in favor of single parenting selfishly disregard the needs of their children.

Eliminate the concepts of feminism and "free love", which provide an avenue for socially acceptable promiscuity and out-of-wedlock births. Unforunately, these cases are the result of cultural shifts and are not easily changed.
