Does anybody know what the rules are for buying used microsoft software? I'm thinking of buying something on ebay and I asked the seller and he says he doen't use it anymore cause he's using a mac now. Does anybody know if there are any restrictions on buying used software? thanks, Mike

Yes, it depends on the license terms of the original software. You can get NFR (Not For Resale) licenses, and OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) licenses that limit what you as a user can do. An OEM license can be sold to you by the maker of the hardware for you to use on the hardware they supply, but no other. NRF licenses are frequently used in promotions and competitions. You also get academic licensed which prohibit commercial use and require the holder to be a student or teacher (or similar). So, you really must find out what the license says in the first place.
