benjymous wrote: I'd be happy to accept that there is a God Yeah, that's a crazy thing about many religious types. They talk like we non-believers *deny* their God. I'm sorry, but of course we'd all like to believe in an after-life, some higher reason for our existence, some higher being that loves us and can forgive us, and can provide us with a Heaven once we die. Unfortunately, I'm not able to believe in such things. If he is real, and I stand before Him on Judgement Day, at least I'll be able to say honestly that I would've believed if I'd had it in me. But surely that's his fault for not giving me that ability? Like Mulder says, "I want to believe", because it would make some sense of things (though I feel it would also cause as many questions as ones it answered like the suffering in the World). That's another thing, whenever you mention the suffering in the World and ask how a loving God could allow it to happen, religious types sort of sigh as though they're bored and they're saying inwardly, "not that old chestnut again"... Well, It really is one of the most pertinent questions. Humans do not DESERVE to suffer and there can be no justification for an innocent child being born disfigured or with disabilities. "The folly of man is that he dreams of what he can never achieve rather than dream of what he can."

Ahh, but some people who don't believe in God, just don't believe in God, whereas some take great relish at pointing this out to anyone religious at every given possibility -- Help me! I'm turning into a grapefruit!

They are the same. Agnostic is someone who is undecided, an athiest be definition does not believe in anything as far as religion is concerned. Christian come on all you MS suckups, defend your sugar-daddy now. - Chris Losinger - 11/07/2002

Oh ok....maybe I didn't expressed myself properly then :) That can happen. :-D ;P And yes, I have one bone to pick with you!!!! It's a shame you haven't written more of those Image Processing articles. It was a great way for me to learn C# as I know and like image processing. Thanks for 'em. :) :)

I can't accept that because it sounds like I'm somewhere in the middle, as though I regard it just as possible as impossible. The fact is, that I regard it as highly improbable. I could meet somebody tomorrow who firmly believes he has a little green monster sat on his shoulder which is invisible. I couldn't say that I am 100% sure he is wrong, but neither would I shrug my shoulders and accpet his opinion as a serious possibility. The idea of God is just as ludicrous to me as somebody's own personal invisible monster, yet am I an atheist? No I don't think so, but I'd hardly call myself agnostic either unless the dictionary description was one who had no belief one way or the other. I guess I can just about live with that :) "The folly of man is that he dreams of what he can never achieve rather than dream of what he can."

Who cares *what* you are, in terms of what someone says - does it change *who* you are ? I'd accept that as a definition of agnostic. OK, I'll accept that I'm probably "agnostic", though as you also implied, the label is just an attachment. I don't feel I'm anything in particular just because I can't believe in God (note my terminology there - I *can't* believe in God).
