Free Hosting???
-
As a recent graduate, I wanted to set up a web site to show off some of my skills. Since I will be losing my school account and web space soon, I was wondering if anyone knows of a good, free web hosting service. I know there are things like geocities, tripod, etc, but as far as I know, these are all very strict as far as cgi, asp, perl scripting type stuff. Anyone know of a better option?? And I know that I could pay a relatively small monthly fee at geocities for example, but I just finished school and I'm barely paying the bills. Any ideas would be appreciated! Thanks, Tym!

If you can spare $10-$12/month, then here are several great options: *nix Web66.com ImHosted.com Do not use this company!!! PHPWebHosting.com Windows ReadyHosting.com IMO, if you want to "show off" your skills, get yourself a domain name and a hosting account similar to those mentioned above. I would never hire someone who hosts their Web site on a free host. If you can't currently afford $10/month, then go mow a couple of lawns on the weekends (or some other small task). That ought to cover it. Mow 12 lawns and you can practically pay for a year's worth of hosting and the domain name. Get your domain from http://www.godaddy.com ($8.95/year, or $69.95 for 10 years) and your hosting from http://www.3-95.com ($3.95/month, PHP & mySQL). I have 3 domains from Go Daddy and respective hosting packages from 3-95.com and the service has been top-notch. With 3-95.com I haven't had to wait more than 4 hours to get a reply from a trouble ticket which is exceptional considering I put the ticket in at 2am their time. I did have one problem with 3-95.com last week. The company they did first server hosting through decided to move a server across the country. When it came to 24 hours without the server being online Gary told everyone to put in a trouble-ticket to be moved to a new server; one that he can control. Once I put the trouble-ticket in, it was a matter of only an hour or so before I was all set to begin uploading our site to the new server. Other than that one problem last week I've had no others since I switched to their service about 6 months ago. James "Java is free - and worth every penny." - Christian Graus
