Will you have an Orchidectomy performed oneday ?

Colin^Davies wrote: One question is why are not more orchidectomies performed I think most men would prefer to have an orchidectomy as a last ditch effort to help themselves. While that idea is stupid when you think about it rationally, there is a lot to be said for the emotional trauma losing ones gonads would have. When it comes down to it, I just don't want to think about it being done in the first place ;P Thanks for the new sig :) James "And we are all men; apart from the females." - Colin Davies

I think that is one strong reason, but another is the big medical and drug companies won't make much cash out of it. BTW: you can get prosthetics, if looks are important. OT: Nice sig. :-) Regardz Colin J Davies

Back in Feburary my grandpa had his leg amputated, before the operation he was fine with it; but afterwards he never acknowledged that it was gone. Colin^Davies wrote: OT: Nice sig. My son had suspected twisted testicle syndrome once; and I thought he might lose one, which was frightening at the time; but I was more worried about complications from it; at the time. No; it has nothing to do with the science of orchids. And we are all men; apart from the females. Orchidectomy is the surgical procedure of having your gonads removed. BTW: Yes; this post was inspired by Martins post. You probably might ask; WTF would I want that for. Well if your family has a history of Cancer, there is a chance that you might become a victim of either prostate cancer or testicular cancer. Research into the performance of remedial action for prostate cancer is worse than the treatments. There is a plethora of differing evidence to show what treatments are best and in what circumstances. Should sufferers have surgery, radiation, hormonal therapy, or rectal heating ? The most shocking statistic I have ever read was that men who sought treatment lived only one month longer then men who didn't. One question is why are not more orchidectomies performed; and the general answer seems to be that it's too easy a treatment to perform. Anyhow guys good luck with your DREs. Regardz Colin J Davies

Colin^Davies wrote: No; it has nothing to do with the science of orchids. Aw, bummer... Colin^Davies wrote: Should sufferers have surgery, radiation, hormonal therapy, or rectal heating ? Perhapse orchid tea? Donno if it has any effect, but sounds much less painful... Colin^Davies wrote: The most shocking statistic I have ever read was that men who sought treatment lived only one month longer then men who didn't. I imagine it's pretty depressing, just sitting around with a useless orchid. Colin^Davies wrote: One question is why are not more orchidectomies performed; and the general answer seems to be that it's too easy a treatment to perform. Yeah, that makes sense. Hard to take an operation seriously if you can pay some foreign orchid fancier to do it in his kitchen...

The worrying thing is why its called an orchidectomy. Apparently some surgeon thought that when everything was 'opened up' *listens to the guys squirm* he thought 'Hey that looks like my orchid' X| And they let him llose with a sharp knife near patients......... :suss: Elaine :rose: Would you like to meet my teddy bear ?

Trollslayer wrote: The worrying thing is why its called an orchidectomy. Actually, the orchid's botanical name is Orchidaceae, Greek for testicles, so it's sort of the other way around. But, still, yeah... :~

However I disagree with it; due to the fact that if the time ever arose most males are under too much stress to make informed decisions. Sure by the time you or even I reach the high risk age groups 50+ etc, the treatments will be be different. Colin^Davies wrote: But currently I believe there exists an unhelathy attitude to hide mens health issues from men Maybe and maybe not. Although I am not in a high risk category I still give myself a good checking over for various ailments and symptoms with some sort of regularity, and I understand the basic problems that may occur with my body from the information I sought out as a younger teenager. I am very much the sort of person who will go running to their GP if they find something unusual, and even though my GP looks freakingly like my hated English teacher from secondary school he is a very easily approached man.
