Can't upload files with an article :(

I'm trying to post my first article, but when I get to the "upload files" step, every file I try to upload gives me this error, and I can't continue to upload the article: "Only the following file types are allowed: JPG, GIF, PNG, ZIP, TXT, PDF, XML" I'm only trying to upload zip files and png files - is the uploader case sensitive on the extensions or something?! I'd really appreciate any help that anyone could offer! :)
