Probably just temporarily insane. Whereas cattle stampede out of fright, these idiots are like the feeding frenzy sharks exhibit when they smell blood. I would like to think that they felt remorse at what they had done, but the cynic in me thinks that their attitude is probably, "it's his own fault for not getting out of the way!"
