The sentences of former Border Patrol agents Ignacio Ramos and Jose Compean have been commuted. Ramos and Compean were serving 11 and 12 year prison sentences, respectively, for shooting and wounding an illegal alien drug smuggler[^]. In a travesty of justice, the drug smuggler was granted immunity for all of his crimes and invited back across the border to testify in a case where the two agents were given long sentences, in an apparent attempt to bolster the political standing of the local US Attorney, Johnny Sutton, for not completing all of the paperwork required by the bureaucrats whenever a shooting takes place. The smuggler, by the way, has been apprehended since, still smuggling drugs into the U.S. from Mexico. Since they were not pardoned, they cannot resume their old jobs, however. They remain convicted felons. Rep. William Delahunt, a Massachusetts liberal, led a bipartisan push for clemency for the two agents with Rep. Dana Rohrabacher, a California conservative. T.J. Bonner, president of the National Border Patrol Council – the agents union – called it past time for the president to redress the 'terrible injustice.' 'The effect on morale has already been devastating. You have agents out there wondering what the rules of the game are,' he said. Since the President's aides say that he is now through with the clemency process, it appears that, likewise, Scooter Libbey will never again practice law. He, too, remains a convicted felon.

He was found guilty of lying to Federal prosecutors - essentially the same charges that got Martha Stewart.

Yeah, you hardly ever see somebody just post a news link in here. Much less add some thoughts of their own on said story.
