click[^] Both parents loose their job and then kill their family and themselves. What do you make of that? A while back I remember hearing about all these investors who lost everything committing suicide. Is this how suicide bombers must feel? The only hope they have is for their problems to end by death.

Something else was wrong with these people. One or both of them simply was not well or raised to think in such a fatalistic manner. Whatever the reason, these are not the actions of healthy people. I lived through seeing my parents loose everything in the early 80s and never once did anything remotely like this even seem to be considered.

Years of their friends/family/religious leaders telling them life would be so much better if we just killed all of X. Even if we kill you in the process.

Or years of the mass media and the educational system telling them they leave live in a meaningless, mechanistic universe.

Chaining ourselves to the moral high ground does not make us good guys. Aside from making us easy targets, it merely makes us idiotic prisoners of our own self loathing.

You might ask them. It's mostly passed down generation-to-generation for centuries if not millennia. For example, Jews and Arabs have been at odds since the time of Abraham, Isaac and Ishmael. That emnity became more pronounced with the coming of Muhammad and the invention of Islam in the 7th century A.D.

Yes, of course Stan. It's all because of the Iranian state broadcasters' daily lectures on the superiority of philosophical materialism over religious ideology.

Well, actually, I was referring to the mass murder of the original post. Trying to juxtapose one personal bias with another don't cha know?

stupid fucking morons that valued "things" over life.

Mike - typical white guy. The USA does have universal healthcare, but you have to pay for it. D'oh. Thomas Mann - "Tolerance becomes a crime when applied to evil." The NYT - my leftist brochure. Calling an illegal alien an “undocumented immigrant” is like calling a drug dealer an “unlicensed pharmacist”. God doesn't believe in atheists, therefore they don't exist.

It kind of depends upon whether you think a purely mechanistic universe frees use to invent our own meaning, or forces us to do so.
