Sports in highschool are, I'm told, supposed to build character and fair play. That's why they are part of the town budget. As far as I know, none of the schools that I supported with my taxes ever had a line item in there about feeding some fourth-rate coach's fantasies of being in the big time. I'm quite sure I wouldn't have wanted my daughter coming into contact with a mentality like that, especially one who was presented as an authority feature.

There should be a mercy rule in place to prevent this much of a lopsided score. Firing the coach on this one is retarded. What about the coach that lead his team out there to be slaughtered. I would think he should be held accountable also for letting this kind of beating go on for the entire game.

It is not clear who you are talking about. Is the authority figure you dislike the coach or the principal who fired him?

Actually, the team he was playing was retarded. I agree with your second point. In fact, if there wasn't some sort of huddle at half time to say, "So, do you ladies want to keep playing?" I'll learn VBScript! edit: That huddle should have involved both teams. I don't think pushing retarded kids around is funny. And I would bet that D.A. team wanted to play.

The coach. Though I'm not sure whether the principal fired him did it because he had the girls run up the score against a bunch of retardates, or because he said he wasn't sorry no matter what the school website said. The apology from the school was a good idea. It's too bad the coach and the principal had to get into a cat fight about it.

Sounds like the two teams should never have played against each other, the coaches should have discussed their relative strength before arranging the game.

Cry me a fuckin' river. These two schools shouldn't have even been scheduled to play each other to begin with. In fact, I don't see how that could have happened unless the kids parents from the smaller school raised a ruckus with the local school board. If anyone is to blame here, it's whoever coerced the school district into scheduling the match-up. The coach was doing his job, and firing him because he's not sorry is total bullshit. Yeah, it's unfortunate that one team got totally pasted by another, but ya know what? In a sporting contest, there can be only one winner, which means the other team is the loser. Mercy rule? That smacks of socialism, where nobody is allowed (or expected) to excel at anything.
