Better yet. Troy can start posting in the lounge. Most of his stuff is rated G for boredom so KSR won't come into play. From now on he can post his crap as often as he likes and you and he can fight it out for the most insulting post of the day award. This way nobody changes their behavior and you can stop trying to act like the hall proctor. It's not a role you're very believable in.

If anyone is aware of why the soapbox exists, it's me - because I'm the sole reason that it does exist (and that's a verifiable claim). The soapbox is here to keep people like Ilion out of the lounge (or at least to give him a place to post). I think everyone here needs to "up" their game a bit.

The soapbox is for people to act as smart or as stupid as they want. Continually dismissing posts from Ilion just because they're from ilion is puerile and flies in the face of what the Soapbox is all about. I suppose that it would be easier to get one person to change their behavior than to get a bunch of people to do so, so I recommend to Ilion that he a) create a new account with a completely different userID, and b) change the way he acts on CP so as not to allow existing members to associate him with his previous self. It's long past time for this childish bullshit to stop - on both sides.

Are you feeling well? It is unlike you to vent such opinions as this. I am at a loss for words. Perhaps if you could convince him to stop being a prat the community would stop downvoting him, but I doubt even you at your most 'persuasive' could do that.

Had he of done that in the first place then we wouldn't be having this conversation. Frankly it is his constant spamming of this board that 'flies in the face of what the Soapbox is all about'. The Soapbox is about arguing with each other, taking the piss and venting steam - not posting link after fucking link to articles that no-one other than Ilion gives a fuck about. People should never of fed the Ilion troll in the first place really, but they did so here we are. People seem to get very het up about this stuff - I used to one of them - life is too short don't you think? Perhaps Chris should close The Soapbox for a while and see how we do without it?

That would create a little police force instead of vigilantes. I'm not sure I am as comfortable with that as I am the democratic method that Chris has instituted.

It's my impression that most of the regs are at least somewhat more respectful of each other these days, both when Troy gives up and goes away for awhile or when he is deleted so thoroughly. For what it is worth, I note that the vigilantes seem to show quite a bit of forbearance. The only three (to my knowledge) who have been deleted are Ilion, Dato, and Adnan (and his last post wasn't deleted.) Stan, for instance, is a pain in the ass but he is definitely a member of the forum and will debate you till the cows come home. He is not deleted, although often one-voted. I suppose the same could be said of me - hmmmm.

Very tempting to one vote that for fun, but I shall resist!

I recognized the futility in that approach long ago (and thus ignore his messages) - a mental leap that it looks like everyone else here refuses to make.

No. Like I said, I see no solution. As bad as it may be, and it does at times look like a lynch mob, the one's lynched keep on reveling in it. Data hasn't stopped just plain littering, Adnan continues to delight in his "Islamic victories", and Ilion keeps on crapping links, kiddie insults and asterisks, so those that have had enough are ultimately bound to strike back in the provided manner. Like I said, it does result in a welcome sort of silencing (and I am among those who welcome that result).

And I vehemently protested bringing this particular aspect of the site to the soapbox. As you can see, my opinion carried no weight.

I don't recall that I was complaining about the number, but that someone asked how many it took, and I was relating my experience. Besides that, I was talking about other forums and articles. The Soapbox has always been a special case.

Of course ... children can always be demeaned by adults. And for the sort of children who frequent the Sandbox, the mere presence of an adult is demeaning.

*sigh* - let the lynching continue. The object loves the feel of the rope.

The kiddies are behaving as they are because there is no cost to them to do so. I believe I indirectly pointed out months ago that that would be the effect.

I recognized the futility in that approach long ago (and thus ignore his messages) - a mental leap that it looks like everyone else here refuses to make.

Oddly enough, I mostly ignore you, too. After all, who could possibly reason with the author of the following:

"You've made your point - you're a puerile little penile gland with the cerebral activity of a grain of sand. Stop your bullsh*t and let us be hypocrites in peace. If you haven't figured it out yet, we don't give a redneck dick slap about your opinions of CP or its users. So, go back to your GameBoy and leave the grown-ups alone." -- someone who surely knows whereof he speaks.

So you're the reason the soapbox exists? Does that make you the proprietor, or the drunk guy standing on top of it?

If anyone is aware of why the soapbox exists, it's me - because I'm the sole reason that it does exist (and that's a verifiable claim). The soapbox is here to keep people like Ilion out of the lounge (or at least to give him a place to post). I think everyone here needs to "up" their game a bit.

I agree but he has not changed his behavior. Remember 'he who must not be named' in the Lounge? No matter how much we either chided, or mocked him, he continued his silly behavior. Until Ilion changes, I foresee others voting to remove his posts. Note that they are almost always already removed by the time I come to the SB.

They are removed so fast I rarely see them - I've only been able to read one in the last week. You aren't missing much...
