Don't have to look that far. It's 69F here heading for 72F. I was wondering if it was time to start hoeing the rose bed. (Somehow when I type that and know I'm posting in SB, I wince.)

It has been a damned cold winter. Nice today though. I think I'll go smoke my pipe out in the back yard after dinner and think great thoughts...

Sydney has not suffered as much as the southern states of Australia but its still been bloody hot. Most of last week was 35+ but there was a change last night and they're forecasting mid 20's with showers this week. We've spent some of the really hot days at one of the local pools or beaches. I was listening to the radio a few days ago and they interviewed a woman from a small town in Victoria. She said they had had more than 40 days of 40+ temps and they were lucky if it fell below 35 at night. By this time the ground was so hot that the cold water supply was constantly warm meaning they couldnt even have a shower to cool off.

Florianópolis, Santa Catarina, Brazil[^]. It's summer, the temperature rarely goes below 40 Celsius and the town is crowded by tourists. It's been hard to surf, Armação Beach (best surfing spot around) is too crowded and most people are "nails" (local slang for bad surfers). Gets better when weather is rainy & windy. Better waves also.

Sitting in a cool office, air conditioned at 20C. Then it's either home to bed, or to a cool pub, air conditioned to 20C. I seem to have totally forgotten about swimming this season.

"Hoeing the rose bed" is pretty tame after what I heard this morning. My son was watching the Whinny the Poo show this morning, I wasn't watching but overheard some of it. Apparently Piglet had dug a hole somewhere and when he went back to it, it was gone, apparently filled back in. So, Tiger and somebody else were discussing helping him. Several mentions of "Piglet's hole" caught my attention. Most notably, Tiger saying that "if we work together, we'll have Piglet's hole exposed in no time". Then after finding it, they decided that what had happened was that some dog had come along and "buried his bone in Piglet's hole". I had to wonder if Mike Phelps was writing for kid shows since the endoursments have started dropping off.

I've been mostly enjoying the warmup as well. The only fly in the ointment is that apparently the white trash kidiot renting the apartment above mine's been chucking cigarette butts out the window all winter. There will be words said...
