Oh, you're just trying to troll, aren't you? Okay, I'll bite... Boo-ed him for what exactly? Because you don't like his music? So what? I wouldn't boo N-Sync at an awards ceremony, I'd just walk out to the bar. Because you don't like what he has to say? Have you listened? I don't mean to the sound bytes the critics feed you, I mean really listened. He's not saying what his critics think he is, Elton John got the joke, what's your problem? Because he has a lot more money than you and you're resentful? You do realise that by hating him you (collectively, not you personally) cause the controversy that makes him rich, don't you? (this is the biggest irony of the Eminem phenomena - he'd be nothing without his critics) Seriously, what has he done that makes you want to Boo? Like him or not, like his music or not, he's frighteningly talented and is one of the most influential artists of the decade and millions of people, of many age groups, do enjoy listening to him. Deal with it. Who do you honestly think will be remembered longest? Eminem or the Hives? I mean don't get me wrong, I like the Hives but I couldn't buy the CD when all three songs I've heard sound the same! I just take the one I got with the Spiderman Soundtrack and I'm happy :). Paul

Well said Paul. I am an Eminem fan (not a massive fan, but a fan nonetheless) and if people actually bothered to listen to his lyrics they might "get it". Sure, some of his stuff irks me simply because of my cosy lower middle-class English upbringing (all that "bitches" and "ho" shit for example) but that doesn't mean he isn't relevant. Man, I would rather see more Eminems than more f***ing "Pop Stars". Sheesh. I also love The Hives, but though they are lots of fun, this time next year they will be old news.

I don't watch the kind of TV that leads me to be faced with them, I watch MTV2 a lot, I don't read newspapers, and so on. I did see altogether too much of adverts for that "Kim Marsh: Happily Ever After" last week though - I could have barfed more than once. Paul

MTV2 is pretty good though they seem to be leaning more towards the nu-metal stuff lately. I am a big indie guitar man, and I just don't "get" all the nu-metal stuff. Mind you, I am 31 now so I will be turning into my dad very soon and will abandon MTV2 in favour of endless repeats of The Antiques Roadshow. :) As for Kym Marsh and that cherubic faced tosser from EastEnders ... it's enough to make you reach for a razor blade. I did laugh when he was fined £20K recently though - for endorsing some cheesy wares in "Hello" magazine. ha ha ha ha ha. What a cock.

Being a mere 29, I have a couple of years to go before I resort to VH1 and at least five more before I watch anything on the BBC ('cept maybe Room 101). Now explain to me... exactly what constitutes "nu-metal"? I'm thoroughly depressed that a 31 year old understands this terminology better than I do ;) Paul

I just got done watching the MTV Video Music Awards, I had watched it so I could see The Hives and The Vines play but I also saw somthing else I enjoyed... When Eminem went up to receive an award you could hear many people boo-ing him. It was definatly very much worth it. Of course if I was there I would have join in and Boo-ed him! How about you?

Eminem was booed after winning the award for best male video for Without Me - in which he dressed as Batman's sidekick Robin. After accepting the award from one of his frequent targets, Christina Aguilera, he announced that techno artist Moby was "a girl". "Yeah, keep booing," Eminem said, as the audience began to boo. Appearing to look in Moby's direction, he added, "I will hit a man with glasses."

You know - all that shouty predominantly American thrash stuff where the lead singer shouts into the mike about everything being shit and the lead guitarist plays so fast you can't see his hands move. Amen, Staind, Korn, Limp Bizkit, etc. I read the NME every week. It's the only way to "stay down with ver kidz". man. :)

I have to agree that MTV2 lacks the range that it used to have, but it's still a hell of a lot more watchable than any other MTV, VH1, The Box, etc. Kerrang ain't too bad but it still relies on the tastes of others, which sadly over the last few weeks has meant school-kids during the day, which is when I tend to be looking for music channels. And MTV2 is the only place that shows the video for Tenacious D's "Fuck Her Gently" (admittedly only late at night) which is one of the funniest things I've seen this year. Paul

In 10 years it will be Eminem who? Nirvana who? Personally, I don't get my literary cues from a bunch of pre-teens. My spell checker said it the best "Eminem" is misspelled, ignore? Tim Smith "Programmers are always surrounded by complexity; we can not avoid it... I like my Bach and can just about stand Bing Crosby but this new-age crap will never catch on." Tim Smith wrote: Nirvana who? Yeah, dead 8 years and you still picked them from a million others. Wonder why that is? Maybe because they are significant? Tim Smith wrote: Personally, I don't get my literary cues from a bunch of pre-teens. Nor do I but I don't discount them. I use my own ears and my own mind and I still know what Eminem has to offer. Maybe you'll like the new album... most pre-teens seem to hate it, too many serious issues, not enough "killing queers". Or maybe you'll just never like anything new, even if it's quality. Paul

I have one of his CD's because I used to be a big fan of him like everyone else but I've just became sick of him trying to be somthing hes not. (gotta give you this much - this isn't one of the many answers I expected, but...) Which is what exactly? He's an entertainer, a musician and a satirist, nothing more. If other people have made him out to be more then you can't blame him for lapping up the hype, can you? Brian O. wrote: I couldn't care less if people remember Eminem longer then the Hives or any other band for that matter. I like what I like what I like and whether or not other people will remember it makes no difference to me. Sure. Hell, Eminem is far from what I usually listen to. Staind, Creed, Tori Amos, Metallica, Pink Floyd... that would give you a decent idea of my usual tastes. But there's no getting away from the fact that he is good at what he does and makes for some interesting rap "interludes" when I'm building a new CD for my car or the office. No different really to me from Gorillaz. Brian O. wrote: It's fine with me if other people enjoy it, thats great for them and I'm glad they found somthing they like but as I said what they think of it wont make me change my feelings about him and his music. Which are what exactly? I'm kind of missing this and I am genuinely interested. Paul

Because they're both damned fine acts in their own genre and neither one is sacred any more than I am? ;) Actually, you'd be surprised how many people like both. I used to Sysop one of the music forums on CompuServe and when I first started I used to explain to people that I was unusual in liking some stuff from most genres but not all stuff from any one genre. But I always used these two as an example until I realised that most people who liked one liked the other. Maybe you should give it a go? ;) Jeremy Falcon wrote: As I type this, I'm listening to "The Unforgiven" on the black album Why? ;) I always think this album was overrated, a tad banal considering some of the stuff they've released (although And Justice For All... is the worst CD, still good compared to some other "metal" bands, but weak for Metallica). Equally, Load and Reload are often unfairly given a hard time - even I barely listened to them for two years and then suddenly realised they were fantastic pieces of music, just different. But still Ride the Lightning is one of the finest things ever to grace the record shelves... seriously, I love that CD. My mobile phone (Samsung T100, proper sound, not that Nokia noise) is set up to play Call of Ktulu as a ringtone - startling! See how I came to be a Sysop? You give me two lines, I ramble on for hours and give you lots to argue with me over ;) Paul
