MTV2 is pretty good though they seem to be leaning more towards the nu-metal stuff lately. I am a big indie guitar man, and I just don't "get" all the nu-metal stuff. Mind you, I am 31 now so I will be turning into my dad very soon and will abandon MTV2 in favour of endless repeats of The Antiques Roadshow. :) As for Kym Marsh and that cherubic faced tosser from EastEnders ... it's enough to make you reach for a razor blade. I did laugh when he was fined £20K recently though - for endorsing some cheesy wares in "Hello" magazine. ha ha ha ha ha. What a cock.

When it started up, it was impossible to not watch it. They had a mix of great bands on there, with rock ranging from the 70's to present day. Now, it's full of new teenage rock bands with spiky hair who compose boring, miserable songs with no effort whatsoever. I can no longer bear to watch it.

Now explain to me... exactly what constitutes "nu-metal"? You know - all that shouty predominantly American thrash stuff where the lead singer shouts into the mike about everything being shit and the lead guitarist plays so fast you can't see his hands move. Amen, Staind, Korn, Limp Bizkit, etc. I read the NME every week. It's the only way to "stay down with ver kidz". man. :)

SONORK ID 100.10024I have to agree that MTV2 lacks the range that it used to have, but it's still a hell of a lot more watchable than any other MTV, VH1, The Box, etc. Kerrang ain't too bad but it still relies on the tastes of others, which sadly over the last few weeks has meant school-kids during the day, which is when I tend to be looking for music channels. But still Ride the Lightning is one of the finest things ever to grace the record shelves... seriously, I love that CD. I just got done watching the MTV Video Music Awards, I had watched it so I could see The Hives and The Vines play but I also saw somthing else I enjoyed... When Eminem went up to receive an award you could hear many people boo-ing him. It was definatly very much worth it. Of course if I was there I would have join in and Boo-ed him! How about you?
I actually caught that bit, suprisingly. This is what happened (or what was shown) more or less:
- Short skit with that "poop-on" dog from Conan O'Brian and Moby
- Eminem enters, is approched by the dog, cameras, etc.
- Dog is asking why Eminem refered to Moby as a "36 year-old bald-headed fag" (in the single "Without Me" on his last CD)
- Eminem pushes the dog away ("Get that thing out of my face") and moves on.
- A bit later Eminem accepts an award, and begins to thank people, reading names from a small piece of paper. Crowd noise is mostly neutral.
- Eminem pauses, "I started making a list, but didn't get it finished" .. "That little Moby girl threw me out of my zone for a minute".
- Some booing starts, camera does not show crowd
- "Keep booing, keep booing, little girl. I will hit a man with glasses."
- Lots more booing.

Yeah, I just found that out shortly after I posted. I read on Moby's website in one of his journal entries that off camera Eminem called Moby a pussy and threatened to kick the shit out of him. All I have to say is man, it takes someone really "tough" to threaten a pacifist like Moby. Eminem is definatly one troubled person...

It's all just marketing an image. he's an entertainer, and people eat up that kind of controversy and attitude. Like watching a cheesy movie, or some soap. I see Eminem as some jerk-off character who raps for a living, and rather than a 2 hr. movie I watch it play out in the media over the course of a few years. He sells millions because its entertaining, not beause of social commentary. I listen to him occasionally, because I get a chuckle out his rhymes. He's not a great rapper, but his lyrics crack me up sometimes. BW {insert witty/thought-provoking saying here}
