      And the cost of postage, printing, address ing sorting made that $1 cost about $5 to the taxpayer. The incredible lack of intelligent though astounds.

        Hah - I got a paper statemant from my bank in Oz for 1c last week - and I live in Singapore. Absolute stupidity is not confined to any single country or organisation!

            Really sloppy. With a little more planning they could've increased the previous check amount by $1 and saved a ton of overhead. Getting an extra $243m of federal funds will more than cover the cost to the program of sending the idiot checks; as usual we're left holding the bag. :doh:

                Most, if not all, bank statements are automated. I had dormant bank account that has 0.68 balance. I'd been receiving monthly statements for months, until I got fed up and closed it. It would have been cheaper for them to give me 10 times my balance and close the account.

                  The Post Office needs stimulus too as does the printing industry.

                    Sure but how hard would it be to put a minimum limit on statement production. Probably something to do with transparency!
