NY Times article by Stanley Fish.[^]. "What I’ve learned (and what some readers of this column no doubt already knew) is that neoliberalism is a pejorative way of referring to a set of economic/political policies based on a strong faith in the beneficent effects of free markets." Is Stan a neoliberal?

No, I'm a classical liberal, with the exception that I do not endorse the radical versions of individual sovereignty that are frequently associated with it (as I believe that any civil society must ultimately be based upon some form of moral authority which dictates to the state rather than being dictated by the state). For example, I have no issue at all with the state being able to control pollution or provide for the general welfare, etc.

Chaining ourselves to the moral high ground does not make us good guys. Aside from making us easy targets, it merely makes us idiotic prisoners of our own self loathing.

Only to the extent that socialists and other leftists hijacked it.

That's why all the true believers call themselves "progressives." It's like being "Pro-Choice," instead of "Pro-Abortion;" it sounds so much better on TV.
