Oh I believe in lots of things, Troy, like, right now, I believe it's time for a second cup of coffee. :)

I believe that coffee should be banned. It is addictive, can be used to hide drugs and is a dangerous stimulent that kids can get hold of and then become annoying bastards. Mainly it should be banned because I hate the taste and smell of the stuff! Now, Tea, that is a much better drink!

You appear to have gotten the Jeffersonian attitude down pat. I gi=uess you believe in "Give me Liber-tea, or give me death!" I on the other hand, lived in Boston for too long not to have absorbed our long-lived antipathy to anything as British as tea. It was, you know, our desire to rid ourselves of that pernicious fluid that caused us to rebell - though we suckered Virginia into joining us by offering them the purfuit of happineff."

This morning he will sign an executive order recinding the idiotic hair-splitting strictures on embryonic cell-stem research that George Bush put in place as a bone thrown to Neanderthal branch of Christianity. This deliberately head-in-the-sand approach to research that might save thousands of productive lives by "protecting" quickened human eggs that were about to be thrown away has hampered scientists and been sighted as proof that we were returning to the age of the "know-nothings." In spite of the fact that Congress voted to overturn Bush's cut off of funds for any organization that violated his personal moral code, Bush insisted that he was right and the people of the United States and their elected representatives -- and even Nancy Reagan -- were wrong, and vetoed the bill. It should'nt require being a member of a Neanderthal branch of Christianity to appreciate that the mass production of human fetuses in order to harvest stem cells just ain't right.

Chaining ourselves to the moral high ground does not make us good guys. Aside from making us easy targets, it merely makes us idiotic prisoners of our own self loathing.

:sigh: The fetuses are being produced anyway, Stan. As I said in my OP, they are about to be thrown away and nothing Bush did made any difference regarding that. If you have a problem with fertility treatments and such, by all means post about it. Or, I suppose, you could offer to pay for the cryogenic storage of all of those fertilized eggs yourself. After all, if there's an all out nuclear war, they might come in handy.

It is gorgeous, isn't it? A friend was shocked when we went to see the last of the LOTR movies and I told him that most of the scenery wasn't cgi.

Is there any provision in the executive order concerning what happens to all those extra fetuses that are "accidentally" produced? If they create a few hundred extra "accidentally" so much the better? Does being concerned about that make me a christian troglodyte of some kind? You also realize, I'm sure, that the ban on using federal funds to pay for it was also lifted? So we are all being forced by the state to pay for the process whether we morally approve of it or not... Yeah, thats progress... :sigh:

Considering that it was done in a constitutionally sanctioned fashion - no. The constitution gives the government the authority to wage war - not to mass produce human fetuses.

Well, its better than being what you are, pal. Say, how many embryos do you think it will take to keep your fat ass alive?

Stan, Christianity is a religion with very specific entrance requirements. Except for the fuzzy-wuzzy cults who think that Yeshua was some sort of new-age hippie who gave everybody a rose when was put on trial, the Apostle's Creed has been recognized as defining the necessary faith need to self-identify as a Christian. I believe in God, the Father Almighty, the Maker of heaven and earth, and in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord: Who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried; He descended into hell. The third day He arose again from the dead; He ascended into heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence He shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Ghost; the holy catholic church; the communion of saints; the forgiveness of sins; the resurrection of the body; and the life everlasting.

For Stan, christianity is just a political requirement. You don't actually have to "believe" anything about it but go through the motions to please the power base. He's still the atheist he claims to have grown up as. He's just afraid to admit it to his buddies anymore.

Are you morally opposed to the use of the HeLa cell line in biomedical research?
