there's simply no end to what we can do with my taxes and the Fed's printing presses.[^] what crap.

Mike - typical white guy. The USA does have universal healthcare, but you have to pay for it. D'oh. Thomas Mann - "Tolerance becomes a crime when applied to evil." The NYT - my leftist brochure. Calling an illegal alien an “undocumented immigrant” is like calling a drug dealer an “unlicensed pharmacist”. God doesn't believe in atheists, therefore they don't exist.

I worked for awhile for the University of Southern New Hampshire a private institution whose president freely admitted that it was kept open only by the number of middle eastern students who received governmental scholarships sponsored by the US and their own government. The idea was much the same as Clinton's: bring these kids over to the US expose them to the wonders of democracy and the joys of higher education at the same time. We'd be making friends for our country, left and right. And, incidentally, paying some of my salary. ;) I wonder how that worked out for us - the name of the country in question was "Iran."

Hamilton warned about this sort of thing -- paper "money" is a great instrument for growing an ecomony -- for unlocking the already existing but pent-up potential of the people who comprise that economy. BUT, in the hands of government/politicians, paper "money" will eventually be inflated to worthlessness, destroying the same economy. This applies to all forms of money, of course; it's just far easier to inflate a paper currency than a more tangible one.

They probably settled in the USA until an acceptable government emerged. I have signed petitions from UK resident Iranians for the removal of the Shah, only to have to sign petitions from the same people for the removal the Ayatollah. Iran is still no place for nice middle-class democrats. (If only the UK/USA had kept Dr. Mossadegh in power.)

Who, pray tell, did they expect to read the petition?

The UK/USA actively worked to remove him. He wanted to nationalize the oil companies so most profits went to Iran but Mobil and British Petroleum didn't like that one bit.

I know, perhaps things would have been different - tho', I will allow, not necessarily better - had we worked with a democratically elected government.

Obviously they never heard of the Prime Directive.

If I remember correctly, it went something like: The internal affairs of the planets you visit are not to be interfered with -- unless the chicks are good looking.
