but of course congress had been warned[^] Reid and Pelosi fought long and hard, bringing in union support to make certain this 3rd rail didn't touch them, just Bush. Of course the cure is probably to first blame Bush (or his father), then Cheney, then Rush and finally I'm sure we can find a way to blame Palin - then raise taxes.

Mike - typical white guy. The USA does have universal healthcare, but you have to pay for it. D'oh. Thomas Mann - "Tolerance becomes a crime when applied to evil." The NYT - my leftist brochure. Calling an illegal alien an “undocumented immigrant” is like calling a drug dealer an “unlicensed pharmacist”. God doesn't believe in atheists, therefore they don't exist.

It's not surprising that in times of economic down turn, social security payments in go down while payments out increase. In part this is because of a bunch of unrelated programs that have been dumped into the SS pot - like Bush (yes, Bush, not Obama) creating a whole underfunded mandate for pharmaceticals that has enriched private insurance agencies, kept the drug companies happy and not really been of much help to Senior Citizens (It's still cheaper to buy drugs from Canada or Walmart - or my health-care provider.) What is interesting is that the video seems to assume that while an economic downturn has caused the problem, an economic upturn will not cure it - either this is because they don't believe an upturn will occur, or it is doing some ground-breaking for Obama's plan to raid the Social Security trust fund to provide health care for everyone before they can no longer use the deficit as an excuse. If the latter is the case, then I must admire his even-handedness. He will prove to be just as willing to rip off grandparents as grandchildren.

See, I knew instictively it was Bush's fault - single handedly passing legislation and ignoring the advice from his own bipartisan group's recommendations for addressing the future problem. how silly for me to have thought otherwise.

If what you are saying is that professed Democrats can take payoffs as easily as professed Republicans, I certainly agree. However, it was Bush who created the commission; it was Bush who threw the weight of the White House behind the bill and it was Bush who signed it and later pointed to it as one of the achievements of his administration. If you think Reid and Pelosi should get all the credit, I suggest youi start your discussion with Bush.

Well, coming from someone who registers with their opposing party for "Operation Chaos" reasons, and continually looking for ways to blame, and endlessly defending Bush, ... oh I think we can all expect this from Mike on a continuing basis. Propaganda first. And this is disingenuous at best to register with a party you are firmly against. Somehow that smacks a bit unamerican.

So, IMHO, does deciding who is unamerican. Mike is a patriot and a thinker. He's wrong some of the time and it helps to know where he's coming from when you read his posts, but all in all, he makes you think, and it's obvious that (usually) he's thought about his posts. And yes, I am aware of the irony in my first sentence. ;)

I disagree completely. I think it is quite appropriate to employ your power as a voter in the fashion that best advances your interests. If you live in a state that tends to be biased toward a political position that disagrees with yours, joining an opposing party to try and influence the choice of a candidate either more in line with your views, or one sufficiently weak that your preferred party might prevail is just smart tactics, and in the best American tradition. Such a tactic was employed quite successfully in my area to send Ms. McKinney packing, and was the best possible use any conservatives could have made of their primary election ballots. I would note that that predates "Operation Chaos", so it and it's proponents were merely following prior art.

Why single out Mike? What about all the democrats who supported McCain both with their primary votes and the media outlets they control? That was all for nothing more than getting a weak opponent for their guy to run againt.

As with most things, it only becomes an issue when conservatives do it. Leftists can do it with no regard for any sort of censure.

Ironically, in New Hampshire the media had all announced that Obama was a shoo-in days before the primary. So many Democrats crossed over in this open primary and voted for McCain to help him beat back Romney who was relatively popular in New Hampshire. McCain won, but so many Democrats deserted, that Obama lost. Had he won, the fight between Hillary and him might have been over before it started.
