Anyone have an idea of the cost elsewhere (not the USA) ??

Mike - typical white guy. The USA does have universal healthcare, but you have to pay for it. D'oh. Thomas Mann - "Tolerance becomes a crime when applied to evil." The NYT - my leftist brochure. Calling an illegal alien an “undocumented immigrant” is like calling a drug dealer an “unlicensed pharmacist”. God doesn't believe in atheists, therefore they don't exist.

slightly outdated, I was paying more a pack than the chart indicates before the recent tax increase. But I suppose it's likely still relative.

About 9-10 CAD a pack of 25 in Quebec, Canada. You can get 200 cigarettes for 20 CAD on the black market but they are usually awful.

Yeah, and intended as propaganda as well. I found it interesting that chinese smokers were willing to spend 60% of their income on smokes. Makes the argument that price can make users stop seem pretty flawed. What they failed to show was that the price differences were almost entirely due to taxes... Governments love tobacco, it's become a bottomless source of revenue.

Not only from taxes, but from the payments the cigarette manufacturers agreed to pay to the states to settle the AFs' suit. It was supposed to go to cover additional healthcare costs, but I suspect that it is also paying for nice races for senior State officials.

I just found a discount site that sells cigarettes for 25 cents each. I believe the normal price is more like 80 cents each. But, we have a public health system, and taxes on cigarettes go into that system, so that people with the good sense not to smoke, don't pay for the health care of those who do.

that makes sense if that money is indeed spent on healthcare costs. here in US many states have already spent *hard earned* tobacco company settlement in non-helathcare expenses. Then they complain they are short for healthcare :omg:

A packet of 20 in the UK will cost you around the £5.30 mark, which is $7.84 at the current rate.
