Jimmy Carter - who won more because of the populations anger at the previous administrations than because of his promise never to lie to the American People - lost much of his creditability when staff at the American Embassy in Tehran was taken hostage and the American Military and the Carter Administration were both shown to be woefully unprepared to do anything about it. The one attempt that was made was called off by Carter before it had a chance to fail. For the next three years Carter was ignored by most of the International Players and a large portion of the American public. Now four pirates, armed with AK47's and a limited supply of ammo, are holding off the rapidly massing might of the U.S. Navy. Other criminals are actually ignoring the the US Fleet and attempting to re-enforce and resupply the original pirates, who are drifting towards shore. (The Navy now refuses to even talk about how close they are to land.) If the pirates make it to land and Captain Phillips is subjected to the indignities and incarceration that our embassy staff was, and/or is finally freed because of a ransom paid to these criminals, we will, I believe, be in a positon when, once again, the presumably strongest country in the world is shown to have an indecisive leader (right now the press is wondering if he's made up his mind about where he'll go to church today) unable to confront a direct challenge to the country he is supposed to lead.

As I recall it was called off after it had come apart when the Choppers he sent got totally messed up by the sand at the rendezvous point, with one chopper crashing and burning. Hopefully the rumors of Obama contacting Carter for advice, if true, just mean Obama is running the plans past Carter and canceling any Carter thinks might work. The USS Boxer has 1800 Marines and a Seal team aboard. Surely they can drum up something, if only Obama will show some balls. Maybe he should let the Missus handle this one...

Yet this is the very diplomacy the left has been screaming for over the last 8 years. This is dialog, debate, a free exchange of ideas. It is with recalcitrant terrorist or course, or pirate, but what the hell? They like this shit and Obama is more than happy to give it to them. Its the change they wanted - all the way back to Carter diplomatically, and Roosevelt economically. In other words, no change at all. Just more of the same tired leftist bullshit.

That should come as no surprise considering that the man has never actually led anything beyond a turd to the toilet. He has absolutely zero training, experience or aptitude for anything resembling actual leadership

The rest of the team wanted to try, even one helicopter down. It was Carter's fear of looking bad that forced them to abandon their mission.

From your mouth to God's ear. Carter is the perfect example of why worrying about being liked can never outweigh being respected.

He's probably trying to figure out who to apologise to. It's a shame. It would seem that all that is needed is for a careful explanation to the four pirates that the only thing keeping the Seals from cutting their throats and pissing into their tonsils is the life of Richards.

They will come in handy if we have to pay a visit to Somalia. But that will happen, me thinks, only if the Seals aren't given their head while the seacoast is still far enough away that we don't have to contemplate invasion. Sure hope Obama comes home from the Easter Parade real soon and checks in at the office, even though it's a holiday.

I figure Obama has sought advice from Johnny Depp on dealing with pirates and has the General muzzled in the basement somewhere.

The current news is that the captain jumped over board again creating an opening for US forces.

I think the US got exactly what they wanted in Obama, Lord help us. Whatever Bush's fault were, the inability to make a decision (right or wrong) wasn't one of them. I guess I will wait and see what Obama does...he hasn't impressed me thus far.

The current news is that the captain jumped over board again creating an opening for US forces.

The forces had to be close at hand and have permission to go. Carter had forces close, and chickened out (for 3 f'n years).

That is great news. Well done the guys who planned & executed this, and got Capt. Phillips out alive.

No questioning the size of Richard Phillips'. And three cheers for everyone in the chain of command who told the Navy not to let another opportunity go by. If that includes Obama - and my guess is that it does - then good on him! Carter continues to stand alone, for which I am grateful.

I did give proper credit, the captain has balls. Obama has a dog named Bo.

I figure Obama has sought advice from Johnny Depp on dealing with pirates and has the General muzzled in the basement somewhere.
