The Whine Flu

Ok, I'm sick of hearing about this stupid flu. I've decided to concentrate my hypochondria on some truly deadly and scary diseases[^]. My favorite is Solanum, perhaps Andromeda is second place, Socialism third (but that's a real disease :) )

Snow Crash, man. It not only screws you up in the phenomenal world, but in the noumenal world as well.

The Red Death gave me nightmares when I read The Red Masque of Death when I was 10.

Necratising faceitous (or spelt something like that) was a great bug from a few years back that had us all crapping ourselves. Then there was SARS, bird flu, and so on. Mind you, its good for the GSK stock!

That depends on your point of view. My mother caught necrotizing fasciitis after being hospitalized for something else and it killed her, painfully, in a matter of weeks.

Just curious, but don't you feel a little bad (perhaps uneasy) profiteering from somebody else's misery? Edited on reflection

Is it profiteering to see and use obvious trends? Do recommend halting trading any time there is news of any kind?

But doesn't his investment help us all since GSK will invest him money amongst other things drug and treatment research?

That or someone will get paid a nice bonus :) Personally, I never own stocks but I'd look into going long via a call option.

Like I said, I was curious of Fat_Boy's reasoning and ethics, and ethics in general I suppose, in investing in Pharmaceuticals at such a time as now.
Right and I asked you why you think it is profiteering when it is an obvious thing to do? If you find trading on news distasteful, what do recommend is done to prevent it? Should trading be halted on bad news only? How about good news?

It's not investing unless you plan on staying in the position for a long time this simple trading.

Chris, I was curious of Fat_Boy's opinion, and nothing more. I do not have any agenda on this issue. At no time have I condemned investment and do not do so now. On reflection, forget I posed the question.

No worries man, we are all friends here (mostly anyways). I may have just jumped the gun at the profiteering remark since I have been accused of doing just that by others when I have been open honest about shorting banks etc (when it was still allowed) and the automakers. Please excuse my enthusiasm.

You don't happen to have a "take" yourself, do you?
