GM takes chapter 11 [modified]

As pointed out, its Chryslerm not GM. And Fiat, an acronym for Fix It Again Tony, buys out the remains, with the promise of giving Chrysler GM 'fuel efficency technology'. So the 'most' advanced technical nation on earth is taking lessons fronm the Italians on fuel efficiency? While I have a lot of respect for the engines the Italians produce, the SOHC and DOCH Fiat lumps are extraordinary engines, I wouldnt ever have called them fuel efficient. For that I would turn to the Germans. (They have some kind of a Lupo diesel that will do over 60 MPG (thats an UK gallon BTW US dudes)). Anyway, I guess its better than yet another nationalised industry.

Chrysler, not GM. fyi - at one time I owned an 850 Spyder. had a blast driving this thing. used to have a problem starting it but it was light enough to push , jump in, pop the clutch and drive away.

I think you've had a bit much. It was Chrysler, not GM (yet). Yeah, since th US gallon is 3.8L, and the UK one is 4.5L, the US MPG would be 50. But then you have to like ridding in a diesel rabbit...

OK, I wasnt sure. I heard the news briefly, and I thouhgt the two were the same firm. (THey used to be in the UK< the Chrysler ALoine was a GM car, but of course the family tree of the motor industry is as incestuous as hell), I will change my postl Thanks. See above, but thouhgt it was the same firm. GM and Chrysler in the UK were the same, at least at one stage. But then Talbot, now Peugeot, was also part of GM. Should have listened to the news more closely!

I don't think so. Chrysler was for a while owned by Daimler-Benz, but after totally screwing it up, they sold it at a loss to Cerberus management.

No, Chrysler once owned Talbot, but Chrysler Europe (including Talbot) was bought by Pugeot. GM was never involved with either.
