Well, ya know, there actually isn't a great deal of archeological data in that area linking these people to earlier hominids... So maybe it implies something else altogether.

Maybe, but if you really think about it all, science has proven that the universe came into existence in a moment of creation, and mankind appears mysteriously in a state of innocence in an isolated garden. Sounds pretty damn close to what some bronze age middle eastern sheep herder supposedly pulled out of his ass 3000 years ago.
