They're wrong because they deform the relationship between the citizen and the state. Even if there were no financial consequences, the moral and even spiritual consequences would still be fatal. And that is absolutely true. The very worst possible scenario is if they actually work. What it really means is that human beings were not endowed by their creator with any unalienable rights. It means we were created to be slaves after all. It is the most absolute repudiation of the principles America was founded upon imaginable.

Chaining ourselves to the moral high ground does not make us good guys. Aside from making us easy targets, it merely makes us idiotic prisoners of our own self loathing.
