More Americans “Pro-Life” Than “Pro-Choice” for First Time

Click[^]. This has some political implications, as discussed previously in earlier posts. I was hoping to see some demographic data since I suspect most illegals are Catholic and some estimates say we have between 12 and 20 million in country. That said, it may not matter even if this relates to Republican platform, since I believe most illegals are socialists (dems) first and Catholics second.

You know, I am both. I am for abortion in cases of rape, health issues (danger of mother dying if delivering). I am against abortion as a birth control mean. It is funny you talk about this, because there was a protestation taking place here yesterday on Ottawa's parliament hill, commemorating the 40th anniversary of decriminalization of abortion in Canada. People were carrying pictures of babies. On a last note, I find it very strange that "pro-life" people are often "pro-war", which kills far more people than abortion. Just a bunch hypocrites. While religion is a major part of it, there are a growing number of secular-humanists that are pro-life.

Does it? Do you have numbers to back that up? Although I haven't looked at the numbers, I suspect that if you look at the last 30 years your statement is not true.

I admit that I may have got carried away with that statement. I tried to find numbers, but the only one I got are from pro-life web sites, which probably exagerate the number of abortions.

I wouldn't get too excited. That is a big shift in one year and it is hard to see what could have caused it --- perhaps sampling error or a change in the public's definition of the terms pro-life and pro-choice. In the same poll, views on the legality of abortion have shifted somewhat but not as much. There is some reason to think that opinion may be trending pro-life. Young people seem to be more pro-life than middle-aged people (though old people are the most pro-life). We'll have to wait a few years on this one I think.

I think, and thought before I saw the poll data, that the division into "pro-Life" and "pro-Choice" is absurd. The poll's finding bear this out even if the headline is misleadingly written for shock value. Like a lot of other people, I believe that abortion is a necessary evil in some cases. Apparently that makes me both pro-choice and pro-life or neither, depending on who I am talking to. I despise the members of NOW who would start supporting the death penalty if it was relabeled as Post-Partum Abortion. I despise the idiot priests who would rather see a woman and her unborn child die rather than have her obtain a life-saving abortion. I despise every politican on the left or right who uses this issue for political capital. By the way, I am no more secular than Pope Benedict. Maybe someday we can chat about the difference between a deist and a theist. ;)

Me too.

Can you name some people you consider to be 'pro-war'?

Back when abortion first became a major national issue in the early '70s, I was about to ship out with the Navy. At the time, I considered myself to be quite the raging liberal. Having no time to read up on the issue, I made my own mind up that a true liberal would support protecting human life rather than protecting the more abstract notion that became known as 'choice'. When we got back RoeVWade had been decided and I was shocked to learn that I was completely on the other side of the issue from the liberals I thought I belonged with politically. In fact, when I made my arguments to them, I was further shocked by the rage and ridicule I received in return, so very unlike the love and tolerance I had recieved from Christians I had previously argued against. That was the beginning of my long journey towards the light.

Might that be because you are yourself a hypocritical fool?

This from a confirmed coward who hid in sewers from school yard bullies, never served in the armed forces, and is now all gung-ho to have the next generation fight some holy wars against Muslims? ROTFL!!!!
