Justice may be blind but Sotomayor certainly is not, she sees perfectly; Sonia Sotomayor in a 2001 speech in Berkeley, California: "Second, I would hope that a wise white man with the richness of his experience would more often than not reach a better conclusion than a latino female who hasn’t lived that life." I think I got the quote backwards.... but it doesn't matter, it's racist both ways.

Needs some context. Wasn't she speaking to deciding cases involving latin and/or female persons/scenarios? If deciding a case involving inner city ghetto youths of latin decent then she probably would be more understanding of the circumstances leading to that. Just as the flip side is relevant and I don't see how that is racist. Is it sexist to state that a white male would be better fit to understand the issues facing white males? Its an experience based observation.

        This statement is false

She is nominated for position to intrepret constitional law as the orginal founders intended. Deviation from that has a profound impact on the rest of the nation in terms of precedents set. Her feelings and racism have no place in that position.

Well its not racism. Nice try. And were those comments in reference to the Supreme Court nomination or was it pulled from the past to be used in current context?

Would it be in reverse? Is it okay for a nominee to claim that the best candidates are wise old white guys? That Blacks and Hispanics just can't get the wealth of experience needed to make good decisions?

I think the entire premise is blown out of proportion. So, no not in reverse. I think an old white guy would be more understanding of circumstances affecting old white guys than a young latino woman.

Better yet. Would the requirement of having a "Jury of your Peers" be racist/sexist/etc? And is it appropriate for an all white upper class Jury to decide the fate of an inner city black youth?

That's very interesting, but it is not what I asked you. She said that Latinas would make better decisions than white guys - Period. I reversed it so that whites would make better decisions. Period. I asked if that was a racist statement. As far as I am concerned a judge can be as understanding or not as the case may be - as long as hisher decisions are rendered according to the law, not that understanding. Apparently President Obama agrees with me about the racism - He said today that she misspoke. By the time the hearings start, I fully expect to hear her say that that she really meant that everyone is equal.

The reverse. It is quite clear than in this country, we only have one class of people when it comes to the law. Only in Europe, I believe, does the idea that a member of the nobility should have a jury of noblemen hold sway.
