By now, we all know (or ought to) that it is highly offensive when English people fly or display the English flag in England. But, as it turns out, it is also highly offensive when Americans fly or display the USA flag in the US. CBS11TV (Dallas/Ft Worth): Mansfield Flag Controversy Draws Worldwide Outrage[^]

Which flag would that be? There is no English flag so lets get some terms right and try to work out which one you are referring to: There are the Royal Standards; HM The Queen, The Duke of Edinburgh and The Prince of Wales each have one. These are flown by, and for, their owners. No one else can fly any of these flags. There is and never was offence taken by the flying of these. There is the Union Flag, or Union Jack when flown at sea, that is the flag of the United Kingdom. This is normally only flown on specific occasions, though its use has become more wide spread over recent years. Finally we come to the Flag of St George, the Patron Saint of England. This flag is also used by Georgia and Northern Ireland (with the Ulster Hand superimposed). I am guessing that your reference is to the Flag of St George. It is true that in the recent past, lets go back 10-15 years, the flag was used heavily by the Far Right and become associated with the xenophobic hatred the evangelised. But in the last five years or so, the Flag has been reclaimed as the symbol of England and Englishness. There rehabilitation of the flag here started with car mounted flags to show support for England's sports teams. So your assertion is wrong and that makes your argument flawed. Sorry, 0/10.

As Bob comments, it is offensive only where the BNP uses it to stir up racial disharmony. But as explained here [^] it is currently illegal to fly any national flag from a non-vertical flagpole, and that flagpole needs local authority planning permission before its erection.

Epitomises England. :-D I am tempted to think that somewhere in Brussels there is a team of Englishmen drafting EU directives.

Mostly England and Canada for some reason.

The words were too big and coherent. That's why Troy-Boy didn't understand.

Oh, let's not pretend that he's incapable of understanding words on at least a superficial level. It's not definitions or grammar that he struggles with, but the overcoming of his own close-minded narcissism.
