If the community as a whole feels this way, then we need to establish standards of behaviour ( for example, don't post a link without discussion ) and then the moderators need to enforce it. I am happy to moderate to uphold community standards, but I need a push, I am always wary of overstepping the mark.

This [^] is a good analysis. But there have been several episodes since the election of Obama fluanting his Islamic associations. He may be doing it in an honest attempt to deal more comfortably with the Islamic world, but it is certainly information that was carefully guarded if not censored during the campaign.
Chaining ourselves to the moral high ground does not make us good guys. Aside from making us easy targets, it merely makes us idiotic prisoners of our own self loathing.
