I see a figure standing next to my bed. It looks like E.T. I try to move, but my legs won't move an inch. I try to scream, and all I manage is a hiss. I'm scared. VERY scared. The figure just stands there, staring at me. And it's not moving an inch either. And then all of a sudden, I can move again. The figure is not E.T. It was just the moon light casting a shadow. The only logical explanation for this is that I was somehow sleeping with my eyes open, letting my subconciousness playing some tricks on me. I can't really tell for how long I was in this state, could have been 5 seconds or 5 minutes. After some hesitation, I talked to a colleague about this experience. He said he read a post from another CP'an, here on CP, having a similar experience. Is this true? I must have missed the thread. All I want to know is; am I going nuts? Should I start cutting down on Sci-Fi? Should I go to the psychiatrist to settle this? All I know is that I was almost scared to death for a period of time, in the middle of the night, for something my apparently brain made up. If you were another man, I would kill you where you stand! The line must be drawn here! This far, no further! They must pay for what they've done!

Apparently it is a common experience (something about an Old Hag?) yet I have never met anyone who has experienced it personally. Don't worry too much, it is unlikely to kill you, just lead to some scarey experiences. Do you smoke? Drink alcohol excessively? Take drugs (even perscription)? Eat a balanced diet? You'll have to wait for Doctor Colin's response for the medical explanation.

I couldn't really tell whether I was awake or not, but I must have been since I remember everything in detail. Ah ha, I have found you some information on my own! I feel dirty at having betrayed Yahoo! though so make sure you say "Lord forgive him for he doth not know that he sins" before clicking this link: http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&q=Old+Hag[^] Look at the pages talking about Sleep Paralysis. There is a scientific explanation attached to one of the first results if I remember correctly.

I guess it's similar to sleep walking. Last night I awoke with a start, and realised that there was a danger of them getting knocked over and being lost everywhere, so I had to find something to put them in. I got out of bed, rumaged through a pile of old boxes in the corner of my room, found a suitable box and put it down by my bed. I remember this quite clearly now, but I have no idea what it was I wanted to tidy away, or why they'd get knocked over, I just remember it seeming very important at the time. Also it seems to me that the point where I would've realised that there wasn't actually anything to put in the box, was the same moment I went back to bed -- Help me! I'm turning into a grapefruit!

i woke up from napping last night when i heard my best friend and his wife knock on the door.. my roomate opened the door and told them that i was asleep and they left. i jumped out of my bed, opened my bedroom door, hollered my friend's name, and headed to the front door.. i passed my roomate and asked if they'd left.. he said 'who?'.. the weirdest thing was that i wasnt sleeping.. i was just laying there.. or at least i thought.. almost like i was dreaming of just laying there and hearing them.. -dz
