How often/where do you post ?

Just curious, CP seems to me to be pretty slow nowadays, do people feel they post more, the same, or less than in the past ? More to the point, would you use CP for programming stuff as much as in the past ?

I post less compared to last year. It's because same questions are getting repeated, people are posting all junk questions and not responding or down voting when someone tries to help. By the starting of this year, I made a move to LINUX. So doing C++ stuff mostly and found it interesting. This is another reason why posting is less. But I used to read almost all posts in C++, C#, Managed C++/CLI and ASP.NET forums. :)

Yeah, it ceased to be of value to me a long time ago, too. I find that asking questions here, or on MSDN, is basically useless nowadays.

I got a decent answer from you when I posted a programming question in here - maybe we should ask Chris to start an address-concealed programming forum? . . .um no, we probably shouldn't.

Sadly, I think that's a common tale. A lot of people mention stack overflow. I guess I should check it out, but I have been here for so long, and I worked for CP for a time, so I'd feel like I was cheating on my wife or something...

Don't expect too much. Here's one of the latest asp.net questions: "ASP.NET - How to write some html in the page? With Response.Write? I need that some html in the area in the asp.net page that i am coding, is changed according to a string variable. I was thinking about creating a label, and then change the text…"

Hey, be fair. Carson is a grumpy left-winger. So is Oily. I realised that I was getting sucked into sniping at or debating Ilion, CSS and Stan. It finally got through my thick skull that none of them were worth responding to, no matter how brilliant a bon mot I thought I could come up with. Unfortunately, it seems that there are some folks that stepped up to fill any void I might have left. I probably don't post as much here as I have in the past. It seems much more hostile somehow and the ultra right wingers are just insufferable since Obama was elected. I never check the lounge anymore and only look in on SB 2.0 once in a while and haven't posted there since the switchover, I think. I check the algorithms and graphics forums and occasionally answer questions or smack the homework cheaters there but they've been pretty quiet for a while. I check the articles daily but most of the new articles are C# and .NET and not relevant to me. The articles I read are usually about things like image processing.

Yep, I find it a little interesting how low some peoples tolerance is for the same medicine they dished out in copious amounts for eight friggin years. I have no sympathy for them.

As far as I'm concerned Rob was/is an important contributer to this forum. His remarks were/are almost always insightful and usually far more temperate than (for instance) mine. I am sure he can make a contribution to any forum or message-based website that he chooses to contribute to, I would prefer that he do it here. If, on the other hand, the trolls want to "contribute" to other forums, I would encorage them to do so and would do anything I could to help them get out of the habit of disrupting this forum.

I don't know about you, but I've been a toothless moderator in name only form the beginning. The most I could do is bitch to the owner, and I see little point in that anymore. I think he wanted this to be Ilion's private playground and CSS' dump. The lounge is mostly insipid, SoapBox2 a wasteland, and the programming forums homework and rent-a-coder help city. Now that they've added blogs and snippets to the articles, I don't even find myself inspired to review/approve stuff anymore. A sad, sad state of affairs.

For programming articles - sure, this place rocks as much as always; just check out Jeffrey Walton's articles, for instance. For answering programming questions, I am pretty much on StackOverflow these days. In fact, I was never very active in CP programming forums.

I had edit power once upon a time, but then there were a whole bunch of changes. I assumed (dumb of me, I know) that you guys were OK so I didn't worry about it. I just brought it up to Chris for the second time. This time I opined that we should either have the tools to work with or our names should be removed.

Then it is up to us to start posting things that might be of interest to each other. And, if we remain moderators, to have a discussion about moderation. It may be exactly what the majority of the denizens wish it to be. If, indeed, this forum has become all about who can outdo Ilion and CSS, then I'm out of here. Hell, I'll start up a members only website and call it "Soap Box 1.0"

Well I figured that the narcissist psychotic was Iliot and the white racist idiot was CSS. Stan often gets labeled as something outside of the norm too. Which left me with a list of righties that I'm pretty sure I could count on one hand, which I figured I was included in. But of those righties, it's generally only the most hard-core hate-filled lefties that call us dirty names, and I think I can count them on one hand as well. The only reason I chose to reply was from some confusion as to why I've heard more and more references to "all the righties" here as of late. Coming from you I thought there might be more to it, that I had missed.

Many would count me as a righty as well. I certainly defended GWB much longer than I now think he deserved (not the war so much as the incompetent appointees, and the massive growth of government followed by Paulson's sellout -err- bailout ). The "conservatives" that do bug me are those still sold on the perfection of GWB, and still focused on the same tired old issues. This country has so many problems in dire need of solution, but the right keeps putting abortion and gay rights in first place (both issues meriting discussion, but neither a current crisis like the economy, oil dependence, health care or a half dozen other issues that need immediate attention). This has driven me away from the GOP (into the arms of the Libertarians, at least for now). As far as the name calling goes, I don't think of righty or lefty as "dirty names", they aren't even very good categories, as Jon has pointed out. Franky, I'm as tired of the name calling and personality politics as anyone, perhaps that's why Ilion and CSS bug me as much as they do. We used to be able to have some good discussions around here, but that seems to have decayed noticeably. Maybe I just need to step back and give it some time.
